TL;DR Breakdown
- UCT set to begin digital currency, blockchain course.
- Digital currency course to educate students more on crypto and how to utilize opportunity in the sector.
- More schools continue to take crypto and blockchain courses.
The University of Cape Town (UCT), one of the top universities in South Africa, announced that it would begin a six-week course on Blockchain and Digital Currency by November.
The course is titled ‘The Future of Money,’ where students would gain an in-depth understanding of crypto assets and how to harness the potential they offer. A token fee of $693 is to be paid by interested applicants as they would be issued a certificate after the entire course.
Properly educating people on digital currency, blockchain
UCT explains in a statement on its website that those who are successful in the short course would have “an understanding of how blockchain technology fits into the existing financial systems” after the entire training.
The top South African university also stated that students would have a better knowledge of how cryptos (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and other crypto-assets can be used after the training.
The course also comes with training on the growing field of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and how they influence the financial industry’s future through an emerging market perspective.
After the course, UCT says students would walk away with enhanced skills and up-to-date industry knowledge of blockchain and cryptocurrencies needed to take advantage of the opportunities it creates.
Crypto education becoming a thing in schools globally
UCT is not the first school to take classes on crypto globally. The trend is becoming a thing among other schools in the US. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell University, Harvard University, University of California-Berkeley, and University of Oxford are a few tertiary education in the US offering blockchain and crypto courses.
Back in March, Cryptopolitan reported how the Georgia House of Representatives approved a bill that will allow Georgia students to be taught about cryptocurrency, among other financial literacy courses.
The bill requires state education officials to implement a study program on financial literacy for high school students. Cryptocurrency is included in the curriculum.
As crypto continues to gain more popularity, it breaks new frontiers. With the tech being taught in universities, it indicates that the sector would continue to be developed by professionals and upcoming professionals now and in the future.
